Robert Bauer is a registered patent attorney with a wide variety of experience in various intellectual property and technology related matters.
Mr. Bauer started his career as an Examiner in the United States Patent & Trademark Office. Shortly after leaving the agency, Robert authored a report addressing several aspects of Patent Office Procedure for the American Bar Association. The report was quoted by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in its 2003 decision in Dayco Products v. Total Containment, 329 F. 3d 1358 (Fed. Cir. 2003).
In addition to being an expert in Patent Office procedures, Robert has represented parties in patent litigation and in licensing disputes. He frequently works with companies in need of advice and counseling on strategic initiatives, including the consideration of intellectual property issues in the context of standards setting procedures. Robert was a contributor to the Standards Development Patent Policy Manual published by the ABA in 2007.
Robert is also active in the use of patents as collateral to secure financing. He was an Advisor to the Drafting Committee for Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and an informal expert to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Mr. Bauer is a founding editor of The SciTech Lawyer, a quarterly publication addressing issues in science and technology law. He is also author of the eTech Update, a popular column reporting on current events.
Robert also works to advance technology and broadband in the region. He is a member of the NW Commission Technology Advisory Group.
