Undergraduate Internship Program
An opportunity to diversify your professional experiences.
Are you a driven undergraduate student interested in exploring the diversity of legal experiences available in private practice? MacDonald Illig's Undergraduate Internship Program offers a dynamic, semester-long experience where you will gain valuable, hands-on legal experience under the direct mentorship of our experienced attorneys. This program is designed to provide you with an authentic look into the practice of law as an attorney or paraprofessional, helping you build practical skills and shape your professional future.
Your experience will be tailored as much as possible to your personal goals for an internship with MacDonald Illig. Whether you would like to focus your time in a specific area of practice or whether you would like exposure to every substantive area of law our attorneys service.
Consistent with our firm's culture, we are seeking individuals whose collaboration and dedication will assist in our clients' successes while simultaneously contributing to the collegial atmosphere in our offices. Our attorneys and staff are committed to getting to know you, not only as a student, but as a person. We want to enhance your legal, professional, and social development to ensure your future career is a success.
What to expect.
Each semester (Fall and Spring, only), we typically hire one or two undergraduate students to work in our offices at days/times that are coordinated with their undergraduate studies. The program is coordinated by two attorneys who meet regularly with the intern to ensure continued communication at all levels of the firm and to ensure appropriate level of work is being assigned and completed.
In addition, an important part of your development is the opportunity to see our attorneys "in action." Interns routinely accompany our attorneys to a professional activity, including client meetings, closings, depositions, oral arguments, and court hearings.
Finally, we understand the importance of feedback to enable the growth of our interns as well as our program. Individualized reviews of completed assignments will be completed by our attorneys throughout the semester and formal orientation and exit interviews will be conducted at the start and conclusion of the internship, respectively. In addition, we are happy to work with your undergraduate institution to assist with any credits to which our interns may be entitled.
Join us.
We welcome inquiries from motivated and interested students. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis -- for Spring internships, through October 31st and for Fall internships, through May 31st -- with decisions communicated by mid-November for Spring internships and mid-June for Fall internships. If you wish to apply for an internship position, please submit a cover letter/e-mail and application by mail or e-mail to:
