How do I take care of my pets after my death?
Unless you specifically provide for your pets in your Will, they are distributed as part of your other tangible personal property. In order to ensure that your pets are cared for in the manner you desire, you can appoint a caregiver in your Will and leave a sum of money or create a trust for the benefit and care of your pets. The funds placed in the trust will be used solely to care for your pets. The caregiver would have possession of your pets and the trustee would make sure the trust funds are being used for the care of your pets. The caregiver and the trustee may be the same or different individuals.
