What is a General Durable Power of Attorney?
A General Durable Power of Attorney is a document in which you appoint a person, called your agent, to act for you regarding your assets in the event you are unable to do so for any reason. For example, if you are incapacitated and need someone to access your bank accounts, pay bills and complete other financial transactions, the agent named can act on your behalf. At your death, this document terminates and your Personal Representative or Executor named in your Will, once sworn in, would have the authority to handle your financial affairs.
