Matt is an attorney at MacDonald Illig whose practice focuses on labor and employment law and business and commercial litigation. He represents employers and businesses in workplace matters, regulatory compliance issues, and complex commercial disputes. Experience and Professional Background

Matt has extensive experience representing employers and businesses in litigation and administrative proceedings involving employment and commercial disputes. His practice includes matters before:

  • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
  • Federal and State Departments of Labor
  • Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Board of Review
  • American Arbitration Association (AAA)
  • State and federal trial and appellate courts

His litigation experience includes successfully defending a local university foundation against antitrust claims in federal court, obtaining dismissal in the district court that was later affirmed by the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He also recently concluded several years of litigation defending class and collective wage-and-hour claims in federal courts in Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

Community Involvement

Matt is actively involved in the Erie community and serves on the Board of Bayfront NATO, Inc./Martin Luther King Jr. Center. He previously served for many years on the boards of Northwestern Legal Services and the McDowell Boys Lacrosse Boosters Club.

He is an elder at Wayside Presbyterian Church, serves on the session, and is a member of the Presbytery of Lake Judicial Commission. Matt has also been involved in youth activities in the community, including coaching ice hockey and soccer teams, supporting the growth of lacrosse in the region, and participating in scouting initiatives. He also volunteers with local shelters.

Recognition

Matt received the Founder’s Award at the Martin Luther King Center’s 2017 Annual Awards Dinner in recognition of his commitment to the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his service to the Erie community.
